Glenan Wood is rich in heritage and history. Sections of the woodland are marked on maps dating 1750 and 1860. Glenan Village is a deserted settlement deep in the wood with a number of ruined houses made of local stone. There are also, what some archaeologists interpret as, the remains of a chapel plus a cairn in the woods.
