Bugs, bats and biodiversity! Glenan Wood BioBlitz, 8th & 9th June

Come along to the Glenan Wood BioBlitz! It’s a great way to find out more about the incredible wildlife in Glenan Wood and start recording it.

We’ll be running the event over two days. See the full programme below. On Friday pupils from the local primary schools will be joining us for the day-time activities. On Saturday Roz McKenna from Tighnabruaich Gallery will be running her Kids’ Art Club as part of the event. We’ll be having a family BBQ on Saturday afternoon, serving up delicious local Shellfield Farm lamb burgers and Auchinbreck Farm pork sausages to the BioBlitzers! There will also be pizza and ice cream kindly donated by Portavadie.

Everyone is welcome to come along to all or any of the events – we hope to see you there!

We’re delighted that Tam Stewart and Carl Farer will be joining us.

Tam, who is doing the butterfly walk on Friday, is a member and recorded for Butterfly Conservation. There are 30 resident butterfly species in Scotland many of them depend on woodland like Glenan and are sensitive to change. Will we find any endangered species like the Marsh Fritillary?

Carl is from Taynuilt and is the Biological Records Manager for Lorn Natural History Group. As well as identifying and recording species during the bioblitz he will be surveying the moths attracted to our moth traps and leading the plant identification walk on the Saturday.
