Glenan Community Forest is pleased to have won funding for a community orchard, as announced to all during the community AGM last November. The mix of fruit trees and shrubs will be planted next autumn/winter 2021-2022, but work on clearing space and erecting fencing for the orchard has already begun to meet the grant deadline.
The site is an area of non-native conifer plantation next to the Chip Shop. Volunteers have been moving the brash from the site and preparing it for planting during the coming weeks/ months. The hope is that once the trees start fruiting; juice, jam and cider making events will be open to the community to enjoy.
The orchard should also be important to local wildlife, whether nesting, pollinating, or munching etc!
