We are seeking to recruit two new positions to help preserve, manage and develop Glenan Wood, a unique ancient oak woodland near Portavadie on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll. Friends of Glenan Wood has been successful in acquiring Glenan Wood for the community through the Asset Transfer Scheme. The asset transfer has been funded by a grant from the Scottish Land Fund. As part of this grant, we have been awarded funding to employ a part-time Forest Ranger for two years and a part-time Development Worker for one year. The two posts could be filled by one person with the right mix of skills and experience.

Forest Ranger

Hours: 15 hours per week

Salary: £11,000 including national insurance and pension

Contract length: 2 years


We are looking for a conservation-minded Forest Ranger to assist with us with managing, preserving and developing Glenan Wood for everyone to enjoy.  The Forest Ranger will be expected to work closely with the Development Officer in the planning and delivery of projects. If you have experience in biodiversity and woodland management and community engagement, as well as bags of enthusiasm, we would love to hear from you.

Development Worker

Development Worker

Hours: 15 hours per week

Salary: £11,000 including national insurance and pension

Contract length: 1 year


We are looking for a motivated and experienced Development Officer to develop an income-generating programme that will ensure the long-term sustainability of the woodland. The Development Officer will be expected to work closely with the Forest Ranger in the planning and delivery of projects. If you are self motivated and have experience of business development and grant funding, particularly in a woodland setting, we would love to hear from you.
